Court documents showed that Connor Regan, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter and two counts of obstruction of justice in a plea agreement. He was sentenced to serve 40 years for the manslaughter charge and 15 years for each obstruction of justice count. Regan was originally charged with second-degree murder before taking the plea deal.
According to documents, police officers responded to an apartment on Jefferson Highway on June 6, 2020, after Kinnedy Smith, 21, was stabbed 39 times.
Detectives learned that Regan had told dispatch that he had stabbed his girlfriend and was on his way to Texas. He was taken into custody after troopers made contact with him in Crowley.
