Arrests made after attempted robbery of Sunnyvale jewelry store

(KRON) — Five suspects who were allegedly casing a Sunnyvale jewelry store in a stolen vehicle on Wednesday were arrested following a police pursuit, authorities said.

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety responded at 2:30 p.m. to the area of Lawrence Expressway and Highway 101 after being alerted to two stolen vehicles. Law enforcement notified nearby jewelry stores of the suspicious activity due to recent jewelry store robberies involving stolen vehicles, the agency said.

One of the stolen vehicles was located 20 minutes later and Sunnyvale DPS officers attempted to stop the vehicle near El Camino Real and Wolfe Road. The vehicle fled, sparking a short pursuit, before five suspects got out and ran into the neighborhood near Fremont Avenue and Rembrandt Drive, authorities said.

“Officers discovered the vehicle was stolen, had been in the area of a jewelry store, and had been involved in a conspiracy to commit a robbery,” authorities said.

While officers searched for the suspects, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety alerted the local community of police activity and drone use. Residents were advised to be cautious in the area between Fremont Avenue, Rembrandt Way, Wolfe Road, and nearby neighborhoods.

By 7:30 p.m., all five suspects were located and arrested for attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless evasion, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property.

The suspects were identified as:

• Isaiah Alapati, 19, of San Francisco/Daly City
• Tyler Ramirez, 33, of San Francisco/Indio
• Jaiden Desouza, 19, of Oakland
• Jeremy Perez, 30, of San Francisco/Daly City
• Isaiah Iosia, 19, of San Francisco

No information was released about the second stolen vehicle that was in the area. Authorities are investigating whether Wednesday’s incident is connected to recent jewelry store robberies.
