Victim in Star shooting identified as suspect’s brother

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies released new information about their investigation into a shooting in the Star community and identified the victim as the brother of the female suspect.

The shooting occurred in the 500 block of Eddie Williams Drive before 9:45 p.m. on July 16.

Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said deputies found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson where he remains in stable condition.

Burnell said the suspects were identified as Erianna Mashaya Garrett, 18, and Ladarius James Harrison, 17, were the suspects.

According to Burnell, Garrett was arrested nearby, and Harrison was located and arrested on Cherry Bark Drive near the Reservoir.

Investigators said the victim in the case is the brother of Garrett. At the time of the incident, they said Garrett and Harrison were in a romantic relationship.

Investigators said the motive for the shooting appears to be linked to an argument between Garrett and her brother. They said Garrett contacted Harrison, who then drove to the home and shot her brother multiple times.

According to Burnell, Garrett fled the scene to a nearby abandoned mobile home instead of helping her brother.

Garrett has been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, and her bond has been set at $250,000. Harrison was charged with attempted murder and will be prosecuted as an adult. His bond has not been set.
