Two rescued after construction barge overturns on Lake Erie

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (WJW) — Two people were rescued from Lake Erie after a construction barge overturned in Rocky River.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, at about 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, officials received a report of the overturned barge with two people in the water.

Units were called to the 19800 block of Frazier Drive.

Rocky River police were the first to arrive on the scene and rescued the two people from the water, said the guard. Station Cleveland Harbor arrived on scene shortly after and confirmed there weren’t any more people in the water.

A salvage company has been contracted to be on scene Wednesday.
