PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A hit-and-run crash earlier in July resulted in the death of one 17-year-old boy, while two other 17-year-old boys were seriously injured, Oregon State Police said.

The crash took place on July 12 around 3:15 a.m. on Highway 18 in Tillamook County.

Investigators said that 34-year-old Alejandro Lopez was driving east on Hwy 18 in a Honda Civic when he “left the travel lane and entered the eastbound shoulder, where a black Nissan Altima with a flat tire was parked.”

Three 17-year-old boys were outside the Nissan, changing the flat tire, when they were struck by the Civic. Police say Lopez fled the scene and is believed to have left the country. There’s an active warrant for his arrest.

The three teens were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Two days after the crash, investigators were notified that one of the boys died from his injuries.
