A teen will stand trial as an adult in connection with an attempted murder and assault case stemming from a shooting last winter in Minneapolis.
Randal Barnard Williams, 17, faces one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of aiding and abetting first-degree assault and two counts of aiding and abetting first-degree aggravated robbery.
Judge Rachel Hughey ruled on Monday that Williams would stand trial as an adult.
Minneapolis police responded to a shooting on the 3900 block of 11th Avenue South around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 5, 2024. There, officers found a man in his 20s who had been shot five times in his torso, court documents state. He told police that he had been carjacked by three females and two males.

The victim survived but has permanent injuries and impairment, including the removal of part of his stomach.
The victim told investigators that he had recently met a woman on a dating app and had picked her and some of her friends up on the day of the shooting. The woman asked the victim to drive to the 3900 block of 11th Avenue South to visit her grandmother.
When they got there, the woman told the victim to get out of the car and follow her into an alley, and the victim complied. One of the woman’s friends shot the victim and the group drove away in his sedan.
Investigators arrested Williams and the woman together in January in Red Wing.
Around 12 hours after the shooting, Williams texted someone, “I gotta lay low,” court documents state.
