Rockford man charged with murder in Freeport shooting

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — A Stephenson County Grand Jury has indicted a Rockford man with murder after a 23-year-old Freeport man was found shot to death in a home on Mark Drive in August 2024.

According to officials, officers were called to the 1400 block of Mark Drive around 5:56 p.m. on August 17th, 2024. A 23-year-old victim was found shot to death in a bedroom.

Police later identified the victim as Jace Glasgow, of Freeport.

Evidence led investigators to identify Saul Lara, 29, of Rockford, as the suspect.

Lara was charged on July 22nd, 2025. He is currently in custody of the Stephenson County Jail, serving a 4-year sentence for an unrelated October 2024 investigation for unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
