(KRON) — A blaze inside a garbage truck Tuesday morning was caused by trashed batteries, said the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District.

San Ramon Valley Fire said crews put out the flames after quick maneuvering from the garbage truck driver. The timing and location of the fire was not disclosed.

“Thanks to the quick action of the driver, the burning trash was offloaded onto a nearby parking lot, preventing further damage to the vehicle,” said the fire department in a social media post.

Officials also used the fiery incident as a public safety reminder on how not to get rid of batteries.

“We would like to remind everyone to properly dispose of batteries,” added San Ramon Valley Fire. “Batteries of any kind should not be thrown in the garbage.”
