The most recent deputy who died in the line of duty was Deputy Sgt. Martin Shields, Jr.
According to supervisors, the monument will stand as a tribute to the deputies’ courage, commitment and service.
The memorial, expected to cost no more than $13,000, will be displayed on the grounds of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office located on President Street in downtown Jackson.
“This monument ensures we never forget their sacrifice,” said Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones. “It is a powerful symbol of our respect and gratitude for their service to our community.”
The installation of the monument is expected to take one month.
