Chicago police said 23-year-old Kenneth Williams was arrested on Monday, July 21 in the 2600 block of South California Avenue in Marshall Square.
Detectives identified him as the suspect who shot and injured an 8-year-old girl on Tuesday, June 24 in the 3000 block of South State Street.
Chicago police said the gunfire erupted just before 10 p.m. on June 24, after an argument broke out between the child’s family and the people inside a white SUV in the 3000 block of South State Street in Douglas.
The girl was in a vehicle with family members when they got into an argument with those inside the SUV, according to investigators. It is unclear if the vehicles were moving or parked at the time of the incident.
During the argument, a man inside the white SUV, now identified as Williams, allegedly threatened to shoot at the vehicle the girl was inside of. Officers said he then allegedly fired two gunshots at the car, striking the girl in her leg.
Williams has been charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated batter/discharge of a firearm.
He has a detention hearing scheduled for Wednesday, July 23.
