Jonesboro man sentenced to 18 years for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A northeast Arkansas man has been sentenced to serve almost two decades for drug charges.

Federal prosecutors said 41-year-old Thomas Demetrius Williams, a felon with multiple convictions, was sentenced on Monday to 18 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. Williams pleaded guilty on April 29, 2024.

Officials said Williams was also sentenced to five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

On Oct. 12, 2021, authorities said they received information that Williams had a large amount of methamphetamine. After learning that Williams was on parole with an active search waiver on file, police went to his home to conduct a parole search.

When they arrived, authorities said they saw three cars in the driveway, with Williams’ girlfriend and a child in a grey car. Police said Williams’ girlfriend stated that the grey car belonged to Williams.

After circling the block, law enforcement officers saw that a white car previously in Williams’ driveway was no longer there. During the parole search of the home, police said they found a debit card in Williams’ name.

While waiting for a canine officer for a further search, police said Williams was seen driving by the home in the white car before stopping and talking to law enforcement officer.

Police said the canine officer then searched the area and alerted officers that there were narcotics in the grey car. Upon searching the car, police said they found a bag that had 730.4 grams of pure methamphetamine, 299.5 grams of marijuana, 19.7651 grams of ecstasy pills, 4.7289 grams of oxycodone pills, $1,999 in cash, and a stolen handgun.

Prosecutors noted that Williams was sentenced as a career offender on the drug conviction due to a prior criminal history that included aggravated assault, three domestic battery convictions, a terroristic threatening conviction, three serious drug convictions, drug trafficking convictions, and felon in possession of firearm convictions.
