ALLEGANY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Two people are without a place to live after a fire caused thousands of dollars in damage to their home and left multiple pets dead Saturday.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal said that about 75 firefighters responded to the 22000 block of Cosgrove Lane in the Westernport area on July 19.

There, crews found a fire inside the living room of a single-family home. The blaze was brought under control within 30 minutes.

The Fire Marshal’s office said 15 dogs and three cats were inside the home during the fire, but are either missing or have died in the blaze.

A firefighter was treated on the scene for minor injuries.

Officials said the fire caused about $225,000 in damage, and two residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Investigators are still working to determine what sparked the fire.
