Forecast First Alert: Heat and storms continue

A Forecast First Alert continues through Wednesday night. Much of the Twin Cities spent Tuesday sweating through highs near 90° with thick humidity, while strong to severe storms rumbled across parts of northern Minnesota. That pattern becomes more widespread Wednesday.

Wednesday will bring continued dangerous heat and storm potential. Highs in the low 90s combined with dew points in the 70s will send feels-like temperatures to near or above 100° across much of the state.

At the same time, multiple rounds of thunderstorms are likely, and some could become strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center keeps much of Minnesota—including the Twin Cities—under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather on Wednesday. Damaging winds and hail are the main concerns, but heavy rainfall and flash flooding are also possible, especially in already saturated areas.

Unfortunately, we still won’t have a clean line of timing—storms could pop up at any time during the day, with a higher focus during the afternoon and evening. If you have outdoor plans, stay close to shelter and be ready to act fast.
