Cooling centers open in New Orleans due to excessive heat
NEW ORLEANS (
WGNO ) — Officials with the City of New Orleans have announced the opening of free cooling centers in the city due to excessive heat.
The cooling centers are laid out on the NOLA Ready Heat Relief Map , with the city also offering tips for how to stay safe during the heat on the NOLA Ready website .
New Orleans officials laid out the cooling center locations as follows, available Wednesday, July 23, and Thursday, July 24, unless otherwise stated.
Libraries (10 a.m. – 7 p.m., unless otherwise noted) :
Alvar Library (913 Alvar St.) – water provided .
Norman Mayer Library (3001 Gentilly Blvd.) – water provided .
Robert E. Smith Library (6301 Canal Blvd.)
Mid-City Library (4140 Canal St.) – water provided .
Milton H. Latter Memorial Library (5120 St. Charles Ave.)
Central City Library (2020 Jackson Ave.)
Main Library (219 Loyola Ave.) – 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., water provided .
Cita Dennis Hubbell Library (725 Pelican Ave.) – water provided .
Algiers Regional Library (3014 Holiday Drive) – water provided.
MLK Library (1611 Fats Domino Ave.) – water provided.
