Chicago police warn businesses after 10 burglaries in several weeks

CHICAGO (WGN) – Chicago police have issued a warning to businesses after 10 businesses were burglarized over the last several weeks.

The incidents happened primarily in the Austin, North Lawndale, Belmont Cragin and River North neighborhoods.

Police said the incidents happened at the following times and locations:

  • 3900 block of W Ogden St. on June 2, 2025 at 3:36 AM. (Ogden)
  • 5600 block of W Roosevelt St. on June 6, 2025 at 2:12 AM. (Austin)
  • 5100 block of W Grand St. on June 6, 2025 at 3:05 AM. (Grand Central)
  • 5800 block of W Roosevelt St. on July 7, 2025 at 4:04 AM. (Austin)
  • 5300 block of W Division St. on July 7, 2025 at 3:18 AM. (Grand Central)
  • 3600 block of W 16th St. on July 7, 2025 at 10:00 AM. (Ogden)
  • 1600 block of W. North Ave. on July 20, 2025 at 5:13 AM. (Shakespeare)
  • 800 block of N. Orleans St. on July 21, 2025 at 2:40 AM. (Near North)
  • 300 Block of W. Chicago Ave. on July 21, 2025 at 4:28 AM. (Near North)
  • 5400 block of W. Madison Ave. on July 22, 2025 at 5:00 AM. (Grand Central)

During each incident, the suspects drive up to the location and use a “blunt object” to break the window or door glass. The suspects then go inside, take cash from the cash register and either steal the ATM or force it open to take money inside, according to investigators.

Police added in most instances, the suspects load the ATM into their vehicle and drive off.

Detectives described the suspects as two to four males wearing black masks and black clothing.

Additional tips from CPD:

  • Never confront the subject, or pursue a fleeing assailant.
  • Remember any unique physical characteristics of the offender (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc.)
  • If video surveillance is available, save and make a copy of the incident for the investigating detectives.
  • If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information.
  • Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible.
  • If you are a victim, please do not touch anything until police arrive.
