Oxford Houses are self-run, self-supporting addiction recovery homes for individuals who have stopped using alcohol and drugs, hoping for a second chance in life, according to a Shreveport Oxford House organizer.
“Because we are not for-profit and self-supporting, fundraising is a vital component to keep Oxford House open and allow us to keep growing to better serve as many recovering addicts as possible,” says organizer Brooke Hosey.
The first Oxford House opened in 1975 and has since grown to over 1900 homes worldwide, with more than 100 homes here in Louisiana.
“Those participating in the fundraiser are raising funds to go to Oxford House World Convention in Washington D.C. Our local Chapters pay for these residents to go learn more about the Oxford House model and bring that knowledge back to help our area grow and all funds come from local fundraisers held in the community,” says Hosey.
The car wash will be held at Porter’s Cleaners, located at 7949 Youree Drive, Shreveport, on Saturday, August 16th, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The cost is $10 per car. Donations are accepted online. If you have unwanted items at home, please consider donating them to a local Oxford House.
