The man was identified as 70-year-old James Edward Jackson.
After an inspection of the scene and the victim, officers said Jackson had not been properly cared for by his caretaker, identified as Willie Sam Wymes, 59, of Dothan.
Police said the victim had obvious signs of neglect, which prompted an investigation.
After inconsistent statements given to police by Wymes were disproved, police charged Wymes with manslaughter in Jackson’s death. Wymes is in the Houston County Jail.
This investigation is ongoing.
