Police report the city’s 11th homicide victim of the year is 33-year-old Gerald Avery of Topeka. Law enforcement is continuing to investigate his death.
The Topeka Police Department (TPD) responded to a reported shooting in the 4500 block of Southwest Topeka Boulevard around 2:15 a.m. on July 21. Police arriving at the scene found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
First responders took the man to a local hospital where he later died. The TPD said another man also arrived at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
