U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Monday morning that officers seized nearly 300 pounds of the highly addictive stimulant, hidden between the panels.
Photos provided by CBP show officers cutting through and peeling back layers of duct tape and aluminum foil strapped onto the panels, eventually revealing stacks of methamphetamine.
Details are limited, and CBP did not immediately disclose when or where the drugs were intercepted at the airport or if any suspects have been arrested in connection with the attempted drug smuggling.
However, the federal agency did say that the shipment was heading for New Zealand and that officers were flagged “based on prior intel,” allowing agents to intercept the drugs before export.
“We do this every day,” CBP said in a social media post. “These ‘criminal masterminds’ never stood a chance.”
