The crash, which involved a Cessna 188, unfolded at 9:35 a.m. near Ogle County Airport in Mount Morris, officials from the FAA said Tuesday morning.
According to the FAA, only the pilot was on board the aircraft at the time of the crash, though it is unclear if they were injured.
SkyCam 9 was over the scene around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, when crews could be spotted investigating the crash site.
Shortly after SkyCam arrived overhead, crews covered the crash site with a tent as they worked the scene.
It is currently unclear what led to the crash and an investigation by the NTSB is now underway.
The FAA says it will share a preliminary report on the crash in the days ahead.
