Just after 10 a.m. firefighters with South Davis Metro Fire Service Area responded to a commercial structure fire that had been put out by bystanders using extinguishers.
Crews found one individual working in the business where the fire occurred had burns over a “significant portion” of their body.
South Davis Metro says the fire involved some hazardous materials. Upon discovering this, crews quickly decontaminated the burn victim who was then transported to the University of Utah burn center in serious condition.
The cause of the fire is unknown. Fire officials say their fire investigation team and hazmat team are investigating the cause of the flames.
