Columbus Police Department promotes 28 officers and dispatch personnel in ceremony

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The Columbus Police Department promoted more than two dozen of its officers Tuesday morning. The promotions were arranged from the dispatch to the assistant chief.

Police Chief Stoney Mathis expressed to the large assembly at the ceremony that picking the officers to promote was one of the toughest things he has had to do in his role, due to the number of officers being qualified.

“I know I got big shoes to fill, got a big job to do. And I’m excited. I’m very humbled to be sitting at the table with a group of guys and women that I’m going to be sitting with,” said Deputy Chief Matt Blackstock.

The 28 officers and dispatch personnel who were promoted on Tuesday were:
