According to Lieutenant Sean Endsley, the victim was 23-year-old Angel Harris of Delaware, and he was stationed at Hill Air Force Base.
At around 2:30 p.m. on July 19, officials began receiving 911 reports about a drowning at Causey Reservoir. Harris jumped into the water and had not resurfaced.
Harris was cliff diving, and initial investigations have found that he was not wearing a life jacket when he jumped into the water and drowned, according to Lt. Endsley.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene and began to search, including Weber County Sheriff’s Office, Weber Fire District, Ogden and Riverdale Fire Departments, and the Utah Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Emergency respondents were not able to locate Harris during the initial search, so dive teams began to search the reservoir. At around 9:10 p.m., a DNR remote-operated vehicle found his body, and divers recovered it.
“We are thankful for the resources and dive teams that aided the search and recovery operation. Our hearts and sympathies go out to Angel’s family and friends in the wake of this loss,” Lt. Endsley wrote.
The Weber County Sheriff’s Office has reminded the public to be mindful of water safety and that all water activities at Causey Reservoir require life jackets.
