18-wheeler, pickup truck hit cow in Jones County crash

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Two drivers were involved in a crash in Jones County when their vehicles hit a cow.

The crash occurred on Highway 84 East in the westbound lanes near Gatlin-Jordan Road around 4:30 a.m. on July 22.

Jones County deputies said an 18-wheeler struck the cow, which caused damage to the front bumper and fender of the rig. They said a pickup truck then struck the cow, causing the vehicle to leave the road and overturn.

Both drivers were evaluated and declined medical transported by ambulance.

One westbound lane of Highway 84 East was closed as emergency crews responded to the scene. Deputies said crews with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) recovered the remains of the cow from the side of the highway.

The crash is under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP).
