ELSMERE, Ky. (FOX 56) — The police were called Monday night to Elsmere, where a 15-year-old girl was killed in a shooting.

The Elsmere Police Department announced that the call came in at 8:46 p.m. to the 3700 block of Autumn Road, where the teenager was found with injuries to her arm and chest. The Kenton County Coroner’s Office declared her dead at the scene.

Further investigation led to the arrest of a 15-year-old boy in connection with the shooting, the police confirmed. He was charged with murder—domestic violence and tampering with physical evidence.

The relationship between the two has not been clarified, according to a release.

EPD said they have yet to locate the gun used in the shooting, and the teenager reportedly admitted to accidentally dropping it.

Residents are encouraged to be on the lookout for a discarded handgun. If found, do not touch the weapon; it is believed to be loaded, and DNA evidence needs to remain unaltered. Instead, call 911 immediately.

The name of the teenage girl killed in the shooting has yet to be released.
