The San Rafael Police Department began getting calls on Saturday morning about the juvenile sea lion that was on Point San Pedro Road near Bayside Park. Responding officers, along with San Rafael Fire Department personnel and community members, used police shields, cardboard and other objects to corral the pinniped.
Once the sea lion was scooted to safety off the roadway, they took advantage of the activated sprinklers in the park grass.
The Marine Mammal Center arrived at the park and found that the sea lion was likely suffering from a bacterial infection, police said. The Center took the sea lion for treatment and rehabilitation.
The rescuers gave the sea lion the name “Pointer” after the roadway on which it was found.
