Man drowns after swimming in Brandywine Creek

(WPHL) — Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after a man accidentally drowned in the Brandywine Creek.

According to police, 21-year-old Sergio Ayala-Vilchis was swimming in the creek with a woman he met at a club in Delaware the previous night around 11 p.m.

While the pair was swimming in the center of the creek, Ayala-Vilchis began to panic and could not swim in the water’s current.

The woman made it out of the creek, but could no longer see Ayala-Vilchis.

At 11:11 p.m., troopers were dispatched, and Middletown Townships Engine 50, Search and Rescue team located Ayala-Vilchis’ body deceased in the center of the creek.

The recovery operation took place just south of State Route 1 west of Mill Road where the pair initially entered the water.

Police say the female has fully cooperated with the investigation and the death has been ruled accidental.
