STATESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Authorities have released new information about the body found behind a home in Statesville last week.

According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to Newton Drive on July 16 after a person who was interested in purchasing the property called 911. Deputies said the caller had believed the home was abandoned, but when they walked around to the back of the house, they found what looked like human remains in the driveway area.

Deputies responded to the scene and confirmed that the remains were indeed human. Because of the advanced state of decomposition, they were unable to identify the person at the scene.

Contrary to the caller’s initial belief, the ICSO said that detectives determined that the home was not abandoned and that someone had in fact been living there. The remains were sent to North Carolina Baptist Hospital for an autopsy and further examination.

By Friday, July 18, officials confirmed the identity of the deceased through medical records. The remains were identified as 50-year-old Kevin Scott Queen, a man who lived at the Newton Drive address. Following the autopsy and analysis of evidence found at the scene, investigators determined that Queen died of natural causes. There is no foul play suspected.
