Evacuation orders, homes without power in Mariposa County
MARIPOSA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE)- The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office is announcing mandatory evacuation orders and warnings for residents near the Trap Fire burning near Bear Trap Road, east of Mykleoaks Road.

Currently, the fire is estimated to have burned 38 acres, and was reported just after noon on Sunday.

The sheriff’s office says power to approximately 3,400 homes has been affected.

Evacuation orders are for those living on Blue Oak Ridge Road, Gold Creek Road, and West Whitlock Road from Gold Creek to Highway 49 North.

An evacuation warning has been issued for French Camp Road.

The sheriff’s office has closed Whitlock Road from Highway 49 to Gold Creek Road, Blue Oak Ridge Road, and Gold Creek Road. Motorists are asked to avoid these areas so that emergency crews can work safely and efficiently.

A temporary evacuation point has been opened at the New Life Christian Church at 5089 Cole Road in Bootjack.

The Mariposa County Health and Human Services advises that if anyone needs assistance or access to resources, they can call 209-432-9227 and leave a detailed message with contact information.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
