According to court documents recently filed in Marion County, David Hiner has been charged with one count of prisoner possessing a deadly weapon, a Level 4 felony.
Hiner was charged with murder in February after two women were found stabbed to death on N. Mitthoeffer Road. According to previous reports,
At the time, officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said that Hiner was identified as the suspect in these deaths after he was found with a wound on his finger. Investigators said at the time that they believed this wound was a result of the victims fighting back.
On the morning of July 12, a deputy was conducting a headcount in the Marion County Jail when he reportedly saw Hiner with a sharp metal object in his hand. After further investigation, the documents allege that the object was an improvised weapon with the “bottom half wrapped in red cloth from a jail-issued uniform.”
After the deputy saw the item, the documents said he called for help from additional deputies. The deputy then gave Hiner a “directive” to give him the object. Hiner then reportedly gave him the object. The documents said that Hiner’s cell was then strip-searched in case there was additional contraband.
According to court documents, Hiner’s jury trial in the murder case is scheduled to begin in November.
