Disaster Recovery Center set to open in Burnet County

BURNET COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that a disaster recovery center is scheduled to open on July 20 in Burnet County to help residents impacted by the recent flooding in Central Texas.

The center, operated by the Texas Division of Emergency Management with support from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration, will provide face-to-face assistance for homeowners, renters, and eligible non-residents who suffered damage or losses.

The DRC is scheduled to open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will be located at the Burnet Community Center.

FEMA officials urge survivors to first file claims with their insurance providers. If insurance does not cover all damage-related expenses, federal assistance may be available.

At the center, recovery specialists can help residents apply for FEMA disaster aid, identify other available resources, and connect individuals with local, state, and nonprofit recovery programs. The DRC is fully accessible for people with disabilities and those with access and functional needs. Assistive technology and services, including American Sign Language interpretation, are available by calling 833-285-7448.

Officials said the deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is Thursday, Sept. 4, and provides the following methods:

• By calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 (open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT daily)
• In person at any Disaster Recovery Center — find one near you at FEMA.gov/DRC
