Over 3,500 homes, businesses without power in Central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Over 3,500 Central Virginia homes and businesses were without power Saturday morning after severe storms passed through the region.

Severe weather has been ongoing for the past several days, beginning on Saturday afternoon when flash flooding and severe thunderstorms hit the Greater Richmond Region, with potential for more severe storms throughout the weekend.

As of 11:15 p.m. on Friday, July 18, more than 7,500 homes and businesses were without power in Central Virginia, according to Dominion Energy.

At the peak of the outage Friday night, over 11,800 customers were without power. Just over 7,600 of those buildings were in Henrico.

While the number has dwindled, more than 2,500 homes and businesses were without power as of 7 a.m. Saturday.

As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, more than 3,500 homes and businesses remain without power.

This includes significant outages in the following localities:

  • Chesterfield County: 460 homes and businesses without power
  • Henrico County: 2,999 homes and businesses without power
  • Dinwiddie County: 129 homes and businesses without power
