KINSTON, N.C. (WNCN) — Two officers in Kinston are currently on administrative leave as the department investigates their involvement in a fatal shooting.

According to the Kinston Police Department, officers were called to a domestic-related incident around 3 a.m. Sunday on the 1300 block of Manchester Road. They were told that a man had a firearm and threatened to shoot a woman who was also home.

Officers said the man answered the door upon their arrival, and during a brief encounter he produced a firearm. “In response to the immediate threat, officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect,” a spokesperson from Kinston police said in a social media release. “Officers rendered aid at the scene; however, the suspect was pronounced deceased on-site.”
