The first lightning-sparked house fire in Wake County was just after 3:30 p.m.
No one was injured, but a large hole was visible in the roof and Crabtree said there was some damage from flames inside the attic.
Several severe thunderstorm warnings continued later Saturday evening and Saturday night.
Right around 10 p.m., a lightning strike from a severe storm hit 105 Sunset Oaks Drive, an eastern Holly Springs home in the Sunset Oaks neighborhood just off Optimist Farm Road, officials said.
“The responding crew was able to get the fire handled quickly and the scene is currently under control,” Holly Springs spokeswoman Kelly Miller told CBS 17 in a statement just after 10:40 p.m.
Residents inside the home were able to escape after the lightning hit and the fire began, officials said.
Fire damage was visible along the roof at one end, including part of the attic of the home in Holly Springs.
“While the scene is still under investigation, the initial cause appears to be a lightning strike,” Miller said, attributing the info to Holly Springs fire officials.
There was no word from either lightning-sparked house fire on whether residents were displaced by the damage in Wake Forest or Holly Springs.
