1 killed, 2 wounded in triple-shooting at shopping center in Chatham neighborhood late Saturday night, police say

CHICAGO — One person was killed and two others were wounded in a triple-shooting at a shopping center on the city’s South Side late Saturday night.

According to Chicago police, officers responded to a call of multiple people shot just after 11:45 p.m. in the 100 block of West 87th Street, where 87th Street Center in the Chatham neighborhood is located.

Police say a preliminary investigation indicates that an unknown suspect displayed a gun and opened fire, hitting multiple people who were standing outside.

A 24-year-old man was shot multiple times in the body and taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. Additionally, police say a 25-year-old woman was shot in the head and taken to an area hospital in critical condition and another 24-year-old man was shot in the left shoulder and taken to an area hospital in good condition.

Police say nobody is in custody, and Area Two detectives are investigating.
