According to the department, Virginia SUN Bucks will become available on Friday, July 18 at the earliest for eligible families.
SUN Bucks are a one-time $120 grocery benefit given to qualifying families with school-age children. Benefits will be issued either on a family’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card or a pre-loaded Virginia SUN Bucks card that looks like a debit card.
The department said those who are automatically eligible:
Virginia SUN Bucks can be used to purchase groceries like fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, dairy and meat at grocery stores, farmers markets and other places that accept SNAP EBT benefits, according to the department.
Anyone who is not automatically eligible can apply online or by calling 866-513-1414 through Aug. 15.
All benefits will reportedly be distributed by the end of September 2025.
