UFC fan experience sees packed crowds ahead of Dustin Poirier’s final fight in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — UFC fans lined up early for the UFC Fan experience before UFC 318 brought the octagon to New Orleans.

“It doesn’t get any better than this. In the bayou, in the booth, come on baby,” said UFC fan Chris Kapanke.

“The fact that UFC came to New Orleans is electric. This is going to be great. We’re meeting fighters. We’re doing all the events. It’s crazy. Thank you, dana white. Thank you, UFC, for coming out and putting on for the city of New Orleans,” said a UFC fan.

For some, like Johnny McCarty, this is an experience of a lifetime he’ll always remember.

“I’m pumped. It’s my first time in here. Anything you have seen? I’ve been following it for about a year and a half now, and it being here for something special, like for you, it’s just awesome,” said McCarty.

According to the Smoothie King Center, the fight is sold out. While fans lined up to meet their favorite fighters, some admit that each fighter has their own strengths.

“He’s just super aggressive, and he always brings a punch along the line,” said Kapanke.

“I’m a Louisiana head, but I got to meet Korean zombie. He’s a legend. Hall of Famer. He’s a madman, and he fought some of the best fighters. He fought Holloway, he fought Dustin Poirier. Korean zombie is the truth.”

The main event fight includes Louisiana’s own Dustin Poirier. Fans say he will be remembered as one of the greatest fighters in Louisiana.

“He’s just a great guy, he never gives up. You know, at no point in time does he give up. He just keeps going and gets up. Straight battle, you know, five rounds. Just ruthless blood. Just going back at it. He’s just a great guy, he never gives up,” said a UFC fan.

“Dustin is my favorite of all time. I’m gonna be upset. Honestly, watching him walk out, but, bro, everything he’s done in the sport is just insane. And it’s crazy to watch him being from here and coming and just leaving it down here,” said UFC fan Brayden Mcelhannon.
