NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man has been arrested after he allegedly injured a New Orleans police officer and an Orleans Parish sheriff’s deputy in a hit-and-run incident that occurred at the intersection of Conti and Bourbon streets in the late night hours of Friday, July 18.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, officers with the French Quarter Task Force saw a Chevrolet Camaro doing “doughnuts” near the intersection and attempted a traffic stop when the vehicle accelerated toward them and hit them.
The NOPD officer was taken to a hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. The OPSO deputy was treated for injuries on scene.
Other officers followed the Camaro to a parking garage in the 300 block of Canal Street, where they found both the vehicle and the suspected driver, identified as 23-year-old Mark Hunter Jr., of Belle Chasse.
Police say Hunter was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries believed to have been sustained during collisions in the vehicle. Upon release from the hospital, he will be booked into Central Lockup on charges for collisions and hit-and-run driving, with other charges potentially to come.
Anyone with additional information that can help in the investigation is asked to call Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
