PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man is dead after being shot in a Safeway parking lot, drawing a large police presence to the Roseway Neighborhood in Northeast Portland.

The fatal shooting took place near Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Northeast 69th Avenue around 4 p.m.

Police said they found one person dead inside a car.

Another person was detained. Police said the detained person was not injured but he was transported to the hospital by ambulance for a medical evaluation.

“I hear ‘pop, pop, pop.’ Then, half a second later, I heard someone screaming, kind of. I said, ‘Wow, this is a trip.’ And then I got out of the car, looked over, and there was someone on the ground. Everyone’s surrounding him, calling police,”  said Michelle Etier, who witnessed the shooting.

Public streets surrounding the store are open to through traffic. However, a portion of the Safeway parking lot is now restricted as the investigation continues, police said.

This is a developing story.
