Jabbar Juluke is ‘proud’ of Edna Karr football’s continued growth under Brice Brown

ALGIERS, La. — Jabbar Juluke frequents the south Louisiana football scene as one of Florida’s top recruiters, and New Orleans talent has powered the Gators’ offense in recent years.

“Really good football players. Really good programs. The high school coaches are doing a really good job of keeping guys prepared. They’re well-disciplined. They’re well-structured, well-organized, and really good athletes. So it’s always good to come home and see good football,” said Florida running backs coach Jabbar Juluke.

Before his time in the college ranks, Juluke was head coach at Edna Karr for nine years and led the Cougars to a Class 4A state title in 2012.

Karr has won five state championships since then, and Brice Brown is a big reason why.

Juluke hired Brown as an assistant after his playing days at Grambling were done, and Brown took over as leader of the Cougars program in 2015.

“I’m extremely proud of Bryce and what he’s doing. He and I started out young, and we had a vision. Now he’s carrying out the vision and taking it to new heights. I tell people all the time, they got rid of my butt, and he started doing really well, so I was holding him back. But I’m excited about what he’s doing. I think he’s going to get even better as he goes, man, because he’s not only a great coach, he’s a great man. He’s mentoring these young people and putting them in a position to be successful. We always told them we didn’t just want champions on the field, we wanted champions off the field. He’s continuing to do so. I’m very proud of him,” said Juluke.

The Karr football brand has received national attention under Brice Brown, and this fall, the Cougars will match up with American Heritage from Florida.

A recent top-25 MaxPreps poll listed Edna Karr as the No. 15 team in the country, and American Heritage was No. 8.

“They’re carrying the torch, so they want to make sure they’re representing extremely well. I think that they are ready to play whomever they need to play, right? They have a good program. I think Brice will have them prepared mentally and physically. I think it’s gonna be a good football game,” said Juluke.

Edna Karr will face American Heritage at Berhman Stadium on Friday, September 12th.

The next day, Juluke and Florida will be in Baton Rouge for a 6:30 p.m. showdown with the LSU Tigers.
