Woman killed in overnight San Leandro shooting

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KRON) — San Leandro police are investigating a homicide after a woman was shot and killed Thursday night.

The San Leandro Police Department responded just after 11 p.m. to 14th Avenue and Williams Street on the report of a shooting. First responders found a woman who was shot at least once. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

Two dogs wearing their leashes were found alone at the scene. It appeared that they may be the victim’s pets. The dogs were taken by police service technicians to a temporary shelter, SLPD Lieutenant Abe Teng said.

It is not clear if the woman was alone at the time of the shooting or if there are any witnesses. The crime scene is surrounded by businesses.

In October 2023, at this same location, a barber was shot and killed while working inside his barber shop.

Police have not released any information on a suspect or possible motives in the killing.
