According to an official from Metra, the crash unfolded around 7:40 p.m. on the Metra electric line near 27th Street, in Douglas.
While officials from the rail system did not confirm that the crash was deadly, the Cook County medical examiner’s office later made the confirmation in a report identifying the victim as a 16-year-old boy.
It remains unclear what led to the crash.
The crash caused some disruptions for commuters, but all trains were back up and running normally by the next morning.
