LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Dozens of protesters gathered outside the Federal Court House Thursday evening, joining a coordinated series of demonstrations across the country.

The events were organized in response to the recently signed “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a wide-ranging federal law that supporters describe as a major win for economic reform and national security — and that opponents say rolls back essential public services.

The Little Rock protest was led by the group Good Trouble Lives On, which advocates for civil rights and economic equity.

Participants held signs, chanted, voicing concerns over portions of the legislation that impact programs.

“I’m here to voice my concerns about the HUD cuts, the food stamp cuts, and also the Medicaid cuts,” said one local protester. “These programs keep people in our communities afloat.”

While the event remained peaceful, the message was pointed.

Despite opposition from advocacy groups, both of Arkansas’s U.S. Senators — Republicans John Boozman and Tom Cotton — have publicly backed the legislation.

In a statement, Senator Boozman pointed to multiple reasons for his support.

“This bill delivers the largest tax cut ever for working and middle-class Americans in addition to letting tipped and hourly workers, seniors, and families keep more of their hard-earned income,” Boozman said. “It also eliminates waste, fraud and abuse so assistance programs can continue to serve the vulnerable, and provides transformational funding for border security, national security and energy security. These policies will help responsibly steward taxpayer dollars and make our nation stronger, safer and more prosperous.”

Cotton emphasized the law’s border security and law enforcement provisions.

In a press release, he highlighted funding for wall construction, expanded surveillance operations, and increased hiring and training for immigration officers. “This law paves the way for a brighter, safer, and stronger future for every American,” Cotton said.

The legislation was signed into law earlier this month by President Donald Trump on Independence Day.

Supporters argue it fulfills campaign promises and reflects voter priorities; critics believe it shifts federal resources away from public safety nets toward enforcement and defense.
