On Thursday at around 2:45 p.m., officers with the Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) found someone in the Garza Way and Potomac Mill Circle area in Woodbridge. The person was wanted for brandishing a weapon that had happened the day before.
Earlier, the suspect had reportedly brandished a gun towards someone who was walking along Colchester Road. PWCPD said it was unprovoked.
No injuries were reported.
The suspect drove away from the area.
Officers had been trying to find the man from that incident. It was also reported that he was involved in a similar incident on Thursday on Birchdale Avenue.
During the search, officers found him parked in a car in the Potomac Mills Circle roadway. It is near the Potomac Mills shopping complex.
PWCPD said officers tried to negotiate with him for hours to peacefully surrender. At one point, officers surrounded his car to take him into custody.
The suspect got out of the car and then started running towards the mall. He was armed with a crossbow, and PWCPD said officers shot and killed him.
He was identified as a 52-year-old man from Woodbridge.
The investigation is still ongoing.
