Monsoon moisture brings unsettled weather across the state

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Friday, Utah! Today’s temperatures will run similar to where they were yesterday, with most places topping out in the 90s, with a few spots staying in the 80s as cloud cover caps daytime heating.

The bottom line? Monsoon moisture pushed further into northern Utah, bringing thunderstorms to most of the state and the threat of flash flooding to some.

The circulation of a high-pressure system positioned over Arizona and a low-pressure system off the Baja Coast is funneling monsoon moisture into the region, which brought active skies and flash flooding to parts of southern Utah yesterday.

The monsoon moisture is still on the move and is expected to include northern Utah today as well. Isolated thunderstorms are in the forecast for the majority of the state with heavy rain at times, especially in southern and central Utah.

Flash flooding will be possible for some areas, especially in our outdoor recreation areas, over the next couple of days. The flash flood threat is “Possible” for all of southern Utah’s National Parks. Keep that in mind if you plan on getting out to these areas this week, keep your eyes to the skies, and stay weather aware! The flash flood threat for the parks holds into Saturday, but storms will cover less ground by then.

Friday will be the best bet for thunderstorms, but lingering moisture could spell a few more isolated thunderstorms into Saturday.

By Sunday, we’re looking at dry skies once again. Temperatures will be fairly stagnant through the weekend and into next week, staying within a couple of degrees of seasonal norms. That translates to highs in the mid-90s for the Wasatch Front and upper 90s to low 100s for the St. George area.

We’ll keep you posted on the latest developments in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
