IMPD: Man found dead within near west side homeless encampment

INDIANAPOLIS — Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating after a man was found dead Thursday afternoon within a homeless encampment on the city’s near west side.

According to IMPD, southwest district officers were dispatched to the 700 block of S. Tibbs Avenue on a report of a death investigation within a homeless encampment.

When the officers arrived at the scene, the department said that a deceased man was located “with injuries consistent with trauma.” After EMS arrived at the scene, the man was officially pronounced dead.

IMPD homicide detectives are investigating the incident. IMPD said that the Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine the manner and cause of death. The name of the decedent is expected to be released once proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
