Gonzales man accused of shooting through cape and injuring one at Baton Rouge barber shop, police say

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An Ascension Parish man is facing multiple charges in connection with a shooting at a barber shop in Baton Rouge.

Kedric Lee, 31, of Gonzales, was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of aggravated criminal damage to property, and one count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.

The Baton Rouge Police Department responded to the 6100 block of Renoir Avenue around 2:05 p.m. on July 7, 2025.

When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the lower back and hand. He was then taken to the hospital.

BRPD found one 10mm shell casing inside the building. When the shooting took place, nine people were inside the barber shop, including Lee, BRPD said.

The person who was shot said that when he walked inside, Lee was getting his hair done while sitting in a chair.

The shooting victim said Lee ran out of the barber shop after seeing him. The victim told police he heard a gunshot near where he was and believed it “had come from in front of him,” where Lee would have been standing after jumping out of the chair, according to the affidavit.

Jail records reveal the man who was shot said Lee was the only person who could have shot him based on his location compared to Lee’s.

BRPD found the barber cape that Lee was wearing outside the barber shop. It had a bullet hole in it, which led police to believe that a weapon was fired from behind the cape while Lee was inside the building.

Glass was outside the building from the shattered front window, BRPD said. Due to the glass being outside, police believe that the shot came from inside the barber shop.

BRPD was able to see video of Lee walking into the barber shop and then glass shattering at the front of the building soon after.

He then runs outside, drops his barber cape, and leaves in a vehicle, BRPD said.

Lee was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Wednesday, July 16.
