The Dark family of products “is highly valued by users as simple and reliable appliances, connecting microphones to Dante networks. IBC2025 sees two more additions to the Dark8MAI line, the Dark2MAI for two inputs and the Dark4MAI for four. Designed to be used as throwdown interfaces wherever microphones or line inputs are required, the new units follow the rest of the line in having dual redundant internet connections, over fiber or copper,” Glensound says.
The boxes can be locally powered, but many applications will use PoE (Power over Ethernet). This is sufficient to provide 48V phantom powering for condenser microphones. The new two and four input boxes use the same circuitry as the rest of the range, providing “extremely high quality, low noise, high dynamic range capture, suitable for any application from interviews to orchestral music.”
Also new in the Dark family is the Dark22M, a compact two in, two out device. With the same audio quality, network flexibility and power agility as the rest of the range, this adds return or confidence feeds, and the ability to mix and gain control on the device to tune performance to the situation. Like all Dark devices, it can be controlled over the network using the GlenController Windows app, or by any suitable device controller using UDP.
“The new additions to the Dark product range are all the result of requests from our users,” says Marc Wilson, Glensound managing director. “Those users, around the world, know that we care about audio quality and we innovate in functionality, but most of all we are problem solvers for those who work day-in, day-out in broadcast and live sound. At IBC, we will show our latest units, but we hope they will spark more conversations so we can help people find simple solutions to audio challenges.”
IBC will see demonstrations and presentations around the whole of the Glensound range, including PBS, the “revolutionary take on audio for parliaments and legislatures. This is a single system covering both main debating chambers and committee rooms, with flexibility for fixed delegate seating or ad hoc placement. It provides clean audio feeds for broadcast, logging and sound reinforcement, and the same software package embraces other central functionality like voting and delegate management.”
