At approximately 12:13 p.m. on July 10, Daly City authorities were alerted by a Safeway security guard that he had been assaulted. According to DCPD, a man shoplifted multiple coffee items, kicked open a security gate and then attempted to flee the grocery store.
Security followed the suspect near the door. The security officer informed DCPD that the suspect subsequently held a glass bottle over his head to imply that he would throw the object. The guard tried to pepper spray the suspect, however it did not work.
The suspected thief then tried to leave the store, but the guard was able to use the pepper sprayer. The guard told police the suspect then threw the glass at them while being pepper sprayed.
Daly City PD found the suspect near South Mayfair Avenue and Fairway Drive. The guard identified the person as the suspect.
The coffee thief was identified as a 31-year-old Los Angeles resident, who was arrested and booked into jail for robbery.
