WASHINGTON – Sen. John Boozman (R-AR) signed a letter on Wednesday asking the Office of Management and Budget to release Department of Education funds to states.

Boozman joined nine other Senate Republicans in signing the letter after the Department of Education withheld distributing $7 billion in grants to the states to fund school programs. DOE officials said the funds are being held pending review.

Trump administration officials have stated that the review aims to determine whether funds are being used to support immigration and LGBTQ+ programs.

The letter states that withholding the funds “is contrary to President Trump’s goal of returning K-12 education to the states.”

“We share your concern about taxpayer money going to fund radical left-wing programs,” the letter continues, “However, we do not believe it is happening with these funds.”

The signatories were led by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), and also included Katie Britt (R-AL), Susan Collins (R-ME), Deb Fischer (R-NE), John Hoeven (R-ND), Jim Justice (R-WV), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Mike Rounds (R-SD) along with Boozman.
